Hey all! About a year ago, I downloaded a screen saver... Well, it didn't work too well for me, so I uninstalled it. I noticed that a part of it hung around; this irritated me, but didn't seem to bug my system. Well, today I found the file inside my system32. Is it ok to delete it?

I don't usually mess around in there, but as far as I can see, it's a useless empty file. The screen saver, I mean.

Thank you

Before I deleted it I would copy the name down exactly (let's say it was photo.scr) then I would google "photo.scr" just to see if anyone posted something on the various forums like,
"I deleted photo.scr and my system went crazy."

Chances are you won't get any relivant hits, but it's worth a try.

Hope this helps.

Also you need to make sure it's no longer in your registry, I'd use RegClean or some other registry cleaner first.
Basically, I would start by running registry cleaner (if you want to be careful enough).
Then i cut aqnd paste the file from system32 into another folder.
Restart your system, see if you get error msgs.
If everything is fine then you can probably delete the file.
That being said, if it's a small file, why not keep it around?
cheers

Ok, thanks all. The file is currently sitting in my recycle bin. It is fireplace nexus. It's a shame it didn't work out that great, because it was pretty cool, but my laptop fan came on everytime the screen saver came on. My laptop doesn't seem to like any flash.

Anyway, it's deleted and all seems fine. It's a small irritation about the modern pc world, when I uninstall or remove a program, why can't the whole thing go away!

Also, I'm a big chicken about the registry. It sounds incredibly easy to screw something up!
